East Godavari district was officially formed.

During the Madras Presidency in 1823, districts of Rajahmundry, Masulipatnam (Machilipatnam) and Guntur were created.

It was reorganized in 1859 and split into the Godavari and Krishna districts.

On 15 April 1925, Godavari district was divided into East Godavari and West Godavari districts.

East Godavari District was formed with Kakinada as its headquarters as per. G.O.No.502.

East Godavari is the richest district of the state, in terms of GDP.

On 4 April 2022, after Andhra Pradesh’s state-wide reorganisation, the new East Godavari district was formed with Rajamahendravaram as its headquarters.
