Ramabai Ambedkar
Ramabai Ambedkar (Ramabai Bhiku Dhotre) an Indian social figure.
Wife of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution of India.
Despite extreme poverty and personal hardships, she was the strongest supporters of Ambedkar throughout his education and social reform movement.
She is affectionately known as “Ramai” (Mother Rama) for her compassion, sacrifice, and support during Ambedkar’s years of struggle and higher education.
Ambedkar himself credited her support for helping him become “Dr. Ambedkar”.
B. R. Ambedkar dedicated his book Thoughts on Pakistan to Ramabai in recognition of her sacrifices and support.
Several memorials, institutions, books, films, and television series across India have been dedicated to her legacy.
Several landmarks and public institutions across India have also been named in her honor.
