International Geocaching Day

International Geocaching Day is observed annually on the third Saturday of August.

It was established by Geocaching HQ in 2011 to celebrate the global geocaching community and encourage people to participate in geocaching.

The day celebrates geocaching, a real-world outdoor treasure-hunting activity in which participants use GPS-enabled devices or smartphones to locate hidden containers called geocaches.

It encourages outdoor recreation, exploration, adventure, environmental appreciation, and community engagement while introducing new participants to the activity.

The observance is marked worldwide through geocaching events, cache-finding challenges, educational activities, and community gatherings organized by geocachers and local geocaching groups.
