Benares was officially integrated into Indian Union.

On October 15th 1949, Princely state of Benares (Varanasi / Kashi) was officially integrated into Indian Union, through the Benares Merger Agreement.

The agreement was signed on September 5th 1949, by Governor-General of India and Maharaja of Benares, to incorporate the princely state of Benares into the United Provinces of India.
