INS Aridhaman (S4) was launched at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam.

On 23 November 2021, INS Aridhaman (S4) was launched at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam as part of India’s Arihant-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine program.

On 3 April 2026, INS Aridhaman (S4) was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam.

Its name, Aridhaman, translates to ‘Destroyer of Enemies’ in Sanskrit.

It is India’s third nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN).

It strengthens India’s second-strike capability and supports continuous at-sea deterrence.

It has a displacement of about 7,000 tonnes and is powered by an 83 MW pressurized light-water reactor.
It can reach a submerged speed of up to 24 knots.

It is equipped with eight vertical launch tubes to carry nuclear missiles such as the K-4 or K-15.
It also has advanced sonar systems and anechoic tiles for improved stealth.

It was built at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam with support from Larsen & Toubro.
